PSALA's Community Service Committee is a very active committee that works to provide visibility for the Chapter through organized participation in community service.  As members of PSALA, our mission, in part, is to (1) support the diverse community in which we live and to work through our members’ collective time, talents and contributions; (2) to provide Chapter members with opportunities to reach out to others; and (3) to lead by example, encouraging our local organizations to increase their volunteer efforts in the community.  The Co-Chairs of the Community Service Committee for 2010-2011 are Carmen Lewis and Arlene Rankin.

Each year we interview and select an organization with which we will partner to organize various fundraising events and projects throughout the year.
Our selection process for the 2010-2011 year has been completed.

WestSide Baby was PSALA's partner for the 2009-10 membership year.  Please read a little about our partner below.

WestSide Baby is a nonprofit organization that collects previously owned items for children and babies and distributes them free of charge to South King County families in need. They work through local social service agencies already assisting low-income families. Agencies order items from them and deliver them to families who are homeless, living in transitional housing, or simply in need of a little help during a difficult time. They work toward a day when all babies and young children in our community have their basic physical needs met - enough diapers, food, adequate clothing, appropriate toys, books, and safe equipment for their care.  Since opening in 2001, WestSide Baby has distributed over $3.4 million worth of clothing, toys, baby gear, and other items.  In 2007, they served more than 7,000 children!
