Outstanding Volunteer, 2010-2011
Vicki Denning, K&L Gates
Vicki Denning of K&L Gates currently serves as Co-Director of Business Partner Relations and is a member of the Community Service Committee. She also served as Facilities Co-Chair for two years. Vicki is someone you can always count on to get things done with outstanding results. She has been on numerous task forces, special committees, and is a valued Chapter member and leader:
“In a short period of time, Vicki Denning went from a shy but willing new member to an active and outgoing volunteer in our Chapter. It seems like no matter where you look when attending an event or a meeting of PSALA, there she is: volunteering her time and assistance, volunteering meeting space and supplies, volunteering to pick up or drop off, volunteering to write, volunteering to investigate. You name it, she will help. What an outstanding volunteer!”
Outstanding Volunteer, 2010-2011
Ruie Victory, Helsell Fetterman
Ruie Victory of Helsell Fetterman has been a member of PSALA since 2006. Ruie served as Facilities Section Co-Chair for four years and currently serves on the Managing Partners Dinner Committee and Business Partner Relations Committee. She has also served on many task forces, including chairing the highly successful Business Partner/Member event at the Garage in March. She is another example of an amazing volunteer and leader, providing outstanding behind-the-scenes support for the Chapter and Chapter events:
“I have been hugely impressed Ruie’s incredible work ethic! To describe her as a dynamo would be an injustice. She has served as an active member of the Business Partner Relations Committee for several years, including the past three years while she also served as Co-Chair of the Facilities (& Sustainability) Committee. Both roles are demanding, and Ruie has served both with energy, enthusiasm, and follow-through.“
“From her masterful control of the busy and chaotic kitchen during the Summer Event at Shelley’s for the past couple of years, to taking over organization of the upcoming Member/Business Partner Networking Event at the Garage in March, to stepping in wherever needed, she’s been absolutely amazing. Not only is her work ethic second to none, but she leaves nothing undone. I would be happy to serve on any committee or task force with Ruie in charge—and I don’t say that lightly.”
Outstanding Volunteer, 2010-2011
Lisa Wabik of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP
Lisa Wabik of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has been a member of PSALA since 2001. She served for four years as Facilities Section Co-Chair, two years as Co-Director of Business Partner Relations, and served on several task forces and committees. Lisa currently serves as Director of Communication. She is truly an example of professionalism, hard work, and dedication to our Chapter:
“Lisa works very hard, giving everything she does 150% effort. I don’t know how she finds the time to do everything, but she does with stellar results. Her work on the Business Partner Relations Committee is outstanding and she has developed key relationships with our Business Partners. She is an amazing asset for our Chapter and I look forward to her continued growth in PSALA leadership.“
“Lisa is an excellent choice for this award. She works extremely hard and always has a positive attitude about PSALA and all its members.”
Outstanding Volunteer, 2009-2010
Pete Prekeges, Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson, P.S.
Considering how successful our Chapter is – which is due entirely to the efforts of its outstanding members – there are numerous individuals who arguably deserve the designation as Outstanding Volunteer. For 2009, that honor went to Pete Prekeges of Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson, P.S. Here are a couple of the comments I received during this process:
“I’d like to nominate Pete Prekeges as an Unsung Hero. I think he’s done a great job of helping us make some hard choices while still supporting both immediate and long-term goals in a satisfying way. He’s also made the effort to restructure the [financial] reports for better global understanding, and when he speaks about fiscal matters he is very good at clarifying the underlying realities of what may on the surface appear to be very good or very bad.”
“He’s amazing, selfless, thoughtful, and not afraid to speak up when something is out of kilter. He’s done a great job of analyzing, monitoring, and helping us rebuild our Chapter reserves! I can’t think of anyone more deserving.”
Pete has been a member of ALA since 1988, and became a volunteer in our Chapter in the early `90’s in the Finance & Technology Section as its Co-Chair. For the past several years Pete has served on the Executive Board for the Chapter as our Treasurer. Thanks to Pete’s insightful leadership as the financial officer of the Chapter, we have adopted fiscally-conservative budgets with the goal of building up the Chapter’s reserves, thereby preserving our ability to continue on our course as a leading Chapter within ALA.
Outstanding Volunteer, 2008-2009
Angela Brockman, Cairncross & Hempelmann, P.S.
Angela Brockman, of Cairncross & Hempelmann, P.S., was chosen as the PSALA Outstanding Volunteer award for 2008-2009! Angela has consistently been an outstanding volunteer for PSALA. She is a contributing member on the Visibility, Website, Nominating and Managing Partners Dinner Committees, in addition to being the Director of Membership Services from 2007-2009. Over the past year, Angela's work on the Membership Committee created the highest increase in membership of all 100 ALA chapters. She came up with ideas to increase membership by offering free memberships to independent members, many of whom joined as paying members the following year. Angela was also determined to retain and reenergize our seasoned members. She determined which members had not attended events for some time and set up phone trees to make contact with them. She invited them to attend our upcoming meetings and social events. With that personal contact, we definitely had an increase in attendance at meetings and events of members who had not been able to attend regularly in the past. Angela is consistent in her determination to do an outstanding job in her office and for our Chapter. Angela always comes through for PSALA and we thank her for all of her excellent work this year.
